Maggie Ly led training on poses, posture, movement, and how to walk the catwalk. She taught the girls how to walk in a poised manner — slowly, comfortably, and with intention.

Her key reminders for the walk:

• Heel–toe — place the heel first, then roll through the toe

• Keep it slow, controlled, and steady

• Stay connected with the audience the whole time — even as you’re about to walk off. As Maggie put it: “The audience is going to miss you.” Don’t drop the energy or the eye contact on your exit.

Even when you feel uncomfortable in heels, the goal is to look effortless. Maggie was especially good at explaining and repeating the important points gently and respectfully — big thank you to her for such a clear, encouraging session.

Thank you also to Michelle and Ashley for accompanying Maggie during training — and to Victoria Yip for coming out to help and thoughtfully bringing snacks and drinks for everyone. Such a kind touch!

I love volunteering with my family at community events, and when I’m not studying I’m usually dancing or exploring new coffee shops with friends. I’m so excited to be part of the Miss Teen Monterey Park Pageant and to represent a city that has given me so much. Thank you!”

Example — Miss Monterey Park

“Good afternoon! My name is Emily Tran, and I’m a Monterey Park native and a recent graduate working in marketing. Outside of work, I enjoy mentoring younger students, supporting local small businesses, and spending weekends with my family. I’m honored to compete in the Miss Monterey Park Pageant and to celebrate the community that shaped who I am. Thank you!”

Tip for both: name → who you are / where you’re from → one or two personal details → a warm close. Smile, pause, and hold your pose.
